Oh, so that's what they meant when they said Sulu was "from San Francisco"
Sulu, gay.

Cynic Alert (Read no further if you want to embrace in an unjaded way the coming out of the actor behind an iconic American character, which really is a good thing, it is.):
Sulu, gay, and managing to promote a play nobody would have heard about otherwise. Is there anybody left in Hollywood not willing to pimp their sexuality for a little marketing?

Oh, you weren't mentioning Cheryl Swopes and her concurrent coming out and hugely profitable connections, were you?
And I had heard of Equus. Just...not much about it.
I thought of Cheryl Swopes, too. R. had mentioned it yesterday. Despite the PR aspect, you gotta give props to Sulu for giving contributing his voice to the under-represented: ASIAN MALE and GAY. :)
Also, Equus--freakin' amazing play. I saw a Swarthmore College production as a freshman and again in Philly post-college. One of my favorites, actually.
Oh, you mean, Cheryl "Lesbian Love Boat" Swopes? To think I neglected the connection. Nice catch, you two.
Oh, also, I should have correctly said "a production no one would ever have heard of." "Equus" is indeed a mighty play (e.g., film version starring the late Sir Richard Burton), which is performed the length and breadth of English-speaking countries, such that one more (dare I say it) vanity production in LA is inconsequential unless it stars Big Gay Sulu. I'm just saying.
